March 25 The Workers' Compensation Commission is saddened to announce the passing of former Commissioner Maurice Cardin.  Commissioner Cardin served at the WCC from 1966-1980.   More information and details are available at the Baltimore Sun (link)

Join the IAIABC in Baltimore's Inner Harbor as we gather for the 2009 All Committee Conference. This annual meeting brings together jurisdictional and corporate managers to participate in committee discussion and information-sharing. More information is available on the IAIABC web site.

Commissioner Kimberly Smith Ward is one of one hundred women throughout the state with a wide variety of occupations and accomplishments named to The Daily Record's 14th annual Maryland's Top 100 Women list.

The award was created to recognize successful female professionals who also give back to their professions and their communities by mentoring others and by personal community involvement.  This year's list includes 16 women named for the third time, who will now be inducted into the Circle of Excellence for their sustained achievements. The list also includes 62 women who made the list for the first time.  The Top 100 Women will be honored at an awards ceremony from 5:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. May 11 at the Meyerhoff Symphony Hall.

A public meeting is scheduled on April 23, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. to solicit comments on the Worker's Compensation Commission Vocational Rehabilitation Sub-Committee proposed recommendations regarding the vocational rehabilitation selection process, level of service provided for injured workers and attorneys fees.

Rules of procedure: Parties who have submitted comments as prescribed above have the first opportunity to speak at the hearing; others will have this opportunity time permitting.  Questions will be directed to Commissioner Jeffrey C. Herwig and must be limited to issues pertinent to the proposed recommendations.  Sub-committee members may question speakers. Each speaker will be allotted  a maximum of 10 minutes. Only one speaker representing any organization, association, commercial interest or business shall be permitted to speak at the hearing.

Hearings in Cambridge are cancelled.  All other hearings will proceed as scheduled.

  • All Commission hearings scheduled today, Monday, March 2, 2009 are cancelled.  Liberal leave is in effect for State employees, our Baltimore City offices will be open with essential staff.
